Gandhinagar: In a major catch, the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police has nabbed Maulana Qamar Gani Usmani, head of  a radical Muslim organization Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat. Gani is also founder of another radical organization Tahreek Farogh e Islam.  His provocation is believed responsible for murder of Kishan Bharwad in Dhandhuka. Qamar Gani was brought to Ahmedabad by evening today.

Qamar Gani is known for his radical speeches and his number of videos provoking Muslims are available online. In one of video clips, Qamar Gani asks Muslims not to fear from going to jail. In another video he says the temperature of Muslim is tested. In one more video he says Muslims have become coward nowadays. In a video featuring his Mumbai speech, he gives example of how Muslim children killed a Christian pastor with stick for blasphemy. Qamar Gani in one of speeches also warned that if one fatva is issued, country’s missiles, army all will be insufficient to deal with it. He said preparations have been made to do Spain in India and temperature of Muslims is checked while doing so.

Usmani was charged under the ‘UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) last year by the Tripura police along with three other people.

Gujarat ATS in its briefing today evening said: Dhandhuka police had filed crime and taken legal action against Kishan Bharwad over a complaint filed against him over a social media post allegedly insulting Prophet. Shabbir Chopra fired bullets and shot him dead. Imtiyaz Pathan was riding a bike during this execution. ATS probe made it clear that Imtiyaz was motivated and supplied weapon by Maulana Ayyub who was based in Jamalpur area of Ahmedabad. Maulana Ayyub was in contact with Asif Sama. Maulana Ayyub had procured weapon from Sama.

Shabbir Chopra was following Qamar Gani Usmani  on Instagram. Qamar Gani runs an organization that offers various services and into legal activism against blasphemy. Shabbir had met Qamar Gani. Qamar Gani had asked Shabbir to contact Ahmedabad’s Jamalpur based Maulana Ayyub.  Maulana Ayyub and Qamar Gani Usmani were in contact with each other. Questioning of Qamar Gani Usmani is underway. Jamalpur based Maulana had clearly asked that if someone insults prophet, the only penalty is death. In May 2021, one FIR was filed against Sajan Odedara over alleged insult of Prophet. Sajan Odedara had stayed in jail for over two months in this case. Maulana Ayyub along with Shabbiar had visited Porbandar with intention to kill Sajan, and had also done recce for the same. However Sajan was not present there and therefore Ayyub and Shabbir didn’t succeed in killing him.

Minister of State for Home, Government of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi had two days ago clearly stated that radicalization of youths is unacceptable. In Dhanduka town of Gujarat, a Muslim youth Shabbir had murdered Kishan Bharwad for sharing an alleged blasphemous video online. Shabbir was accompanied by another accused Imtiyaz on bike. Shabbir was given a weapon and bullets by a maulvi Ayyub in Ahmedabad. Maulvi Ayyub was given a weapon by Rajkot based Azim sama. All these persons along with Azim’s brother are nabbed by Police. During questioning and interrogation,  Qamar Gani Usmani’s name came out as master provocator.

Accused Shabbir Chopda is studied till Class 9 and is a welder. In 2015, an offence was filed against him by Botad police.

Police may arrest more clerics who are into activities of radicalization of Muslim youths. DeshGujarat
