Bhuj bound Alliance Air flight takes off without engine cover

Bhuj: A Bhuj bound Alliance Air flight took off from the Mumbai Airport without its engine cover.

The engine cover had dropped at the Mumbai airport before taking off. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated a probe. The flight had 70 passengers on board and it safely landed at Bhuj Airport after losing the engine cowl. The cowl had dropped at 6.30 am in the morning. The cowl appeared to be dropped from ATR aircraft VT-RKJ at BOM which was operating 91-625 (BOM-BHJ), as per one of the Mumbai airport officials.

Captain Amit Singh, an aviation expert, blamed poor maintenance work for the incident. Speaking to ANI, he said, “Incidents of cowl separation usually occur post maintenance activity if latches are not secured. The crew is also expected to ensure that the engine cowl is seated before commencing the flight.” DeshGujarat
