Construction of Narmada river bridge connecting two districts 70 per cent completed

Vadodara: The construction work of the bridge on the Narmada river connecting Vadodara district with Bharuch and Narmada districts via Dabhoi, Shinor, Malsar and Asha road has been 70 percent completed.

The bridge is being built at a cost of Rs 179 crore. It will reduce the distance by 20 kms for travelling from Vadodara to Netrang, Dediyapad and Maharashtra. The issues of difficult climbs and hilly areas on the route will be resolved due to the bridge for the vehicles.

It will be the 56th bridge on the 1312-km flow of Narmada river. The work of building the PSC girder deck pool on the highway of Dabhoi, Shinor, Malsar and Asha on the Narmada river is going on, informed the executive engineer Kamlesh Thorat. Total 16 pillars are being constructed for the bridge.

The slab shuttering between pier number 8 to 9 is in progress. The iron grill bed is being applied between pier number 6 to 8 and soffit slab work between pier number 5 to 6 is in progress. Moreover, the work of retaining wall, side wall and girder casting is ongoing.

Total 12 thousands tons of iron of various types and 20 thousand tons of cement are used for the bridge. The bridge is 3.5 km long and 16 km wide. The 900 metre portion of the bridge will pass from the Narmada river and the 600 metre portion will be towards Asha and 2 kms towards Malsar.
