Data based policing with technological additions the way forward for Ahmedabad Police: CP Sanjay Srivastava

Sabarmati: City Police Commissioner Sanjay Srivastava today said the city police has entered the new era of data-based policing and technology additions.

Sharing the details of the back-end technology, the city police has started using recently, the city police chief said, video analyzed system, versatile dashboard, intelligent and integrated dashboard, face recognition, case management software, block chain, court management system, heat mapping are some of the highlights of new technological additions the city police has started working on.

Most of such features are part of Tarkash app which the field-staff of city police is already using. The app is available on mobile phones of cops. The top cop of city police said the physical books of traffic fines are withdrawn and completely replaced with the paper-less mobile phone based system. 12,250 out of 13,500 cops in the city are on Tarkash app, he added.

Through the dash-board named ‘Dainik’ the city police officials can see heatmap of the incidents of crime, performance of cops for field evaluation and number of other data.

Srivastav said the city police is creating the syllabus with Gujarat Education Board on cyber etiquette and safety. He said the city police carried out ‘Nirbhaya survey’ covering 40,000 women. The output of this survey has suggested need of proper lighting at certain places, need of enough ladies toilets, ladies room, need of legal awareness. The survey has also helped in identification of several hotspots.

The Police Commissioner said, the city police is going to purchase two boats and electric vehicles to serve the area of Sabarmati Riverfront. He said the city police has set up two one-stop crisis centres for women to serve the medical, legal and crime related help at single place.

He said the city police has purchased ten Taser stun guns that can be used to immobilize the criminals for a few minutes in order to arrest him/her safely. “Such guns can be used safely, barring the genital and eyes portions of human body,” he said. DeshGujarat
