Sabarmati: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced a list of 100 biggest property tax defaulters who cumulatively owe AMC over Rs 300 crore.

AMC has made the list of top-15 defaulters from each of the 7 zones which includes several well known organisations such as Adani Gas, Blue Lagoon and Chanchal party plot, Shalby Hospital, Gandhi Corporation Ltd, Calico Mills, Indian Railways, the Bhartiya Container Nigam Ltd and so on.

Most of the defaulters are central and state government departments, liquidator companies, entities involved in sub-judicial cases stayed by the court and companies that are subject to sealing and auction proceedings as per GPMC Act. Chairman of AMC’s revenue committee Jainik Vakil said that no strict recovery measures can be taken as per the judgement of the Supreme Court. The only way is to negotiate and recover dues from them, he said.
