Gujarat govt launches State’s first Air Ambulance linked to 108 service

Gandhinagar: State civil aviation minister Purnesh Modi inaugurated air ambulance service in Gujarat from the GujSAIL office at Ahmedabad Airport.

The health department and GVK-EMRI- which runs 108 ambulance services in the state will jointly run the project. The service will be made available through 108-service itself. The caregivers will have to pay Rs 55,000 to Rs 65,000 per hour for the service. They will have to also bear other airport charges. The payments will have to be made to GujSAIL. The hospital to airport fees will be free of charge.

The service is restricted to intra-state transfer of patients at present. A request to transfer the patients outside the state will be considered based on medical advice. A 20-year old Beechcraft 200 plane will be used as an air ambulance. It was earlier used for the CM and VVIPs. The air ambulance will have a doctor and two two paramedical staff. It has a ventilator, defibrillator, and ECG monitor.
