India ready to supply food to shortage-hit world immediately if WTO permits – Modi tells Biden

Gandhinagar: In his virtual address here, PM Narendra Modi today said he told U.S. President Joe Biden in virtual bilateral meeting yesterday that if the World Trade Organization (WTO) permits it and make relaxations for export, India can start sending food supplies to shortage-hit world right from tomorrow itself.

PM Modi while addressing Shri Annapuranadham hostel and education complex virtually from New Delhi said – the world is recently witnessing an turbulent situation and availability of things like petrol, oil, fertilizers has been affected, as the gates of the places from where they are sourced are closed. The situation of war is such that each (country) is limiting the things to itself. And in this situation, global food stock is also facing shortage. Yesterday when I was holding talks with the U.S. President, he also said this. I told him that if World Trade Organization (WTO) permits it, if they make relaxations for export of food stock from India, we can start sending the supplies even tomorrow itself. We feed India, and with blessings of Goddess Annapura, our farmers have made production in advance, but these global rules have to be followed. We don’t know whether they will make corrections to rules.

PM further said the world is surprised about India’s achievement of providing free food to 80 crore people for last over two years. PM asked how come Gujarat that has presence of Mata Annapurna can allow malnutrition to exist? He said the issue of malnutrition is more due to the lack of knowledge on nutrition, rather than lack of nutrition itself.

PM asked Gujarat to start skill development 4.0 in accordance with industry 4.0. He said Gujarat should lead on this front and take quantum jump.

PM Modi asked Annapuranadham’s Narhari Amin to put a video about what to eat, what not to eat and what elements are required for body. So while taking meal, a person can know about nutritious and right kind of food required for body. This dining hall will be famous and media will visit it. Food is first step towards good health.
