Vadodara: The cadres of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) here today staged protest against several art frames in which the shapes of Hindu Gods and Goddesses were depicted using newspaper articles containing news reporting of rape incidents at Faculty of Fine Arts in Maharaja Sayajirao (MS) University.

Certain frames, exhibited at the faculty had figures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses made out of newspaper articles. All the news articles that were used to make such figures were containing news reporting of rape incidents. The frames belonged to paper cutting and graphics section of Faculty.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) cadres joined by number of Hindu organizations rushed to MSU Faculty of Fine Arts to lodge protest.

ABVP leader Nishit Varotariya said – Why every time Hindu gods and goddesses are used in such iconography and why not the Gods from other faiths? Why rape cuttings were deliberately chosen to make figures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses? This Sayaji University has been made through donation. This city is called Sanskari Nagari. Hindu Gods and Goddesses can’t be used to set certain narrative around rape cases. The Faculty had one of art pieces showed a naked woman below Ashok Stambh. The current dean of this faculty must be expelled. This was an attempt to hurt religious sentiments. We demand strong action.

Hasmukh Vaghela, a senate member of MSU echoed this sentiment.

According to Jayram Podwal, Dean of Fine Arts, the said frames are removed from the exhibition. Podwal said the exhibition was set up for two-day jury which is part of the examination. The exhibition was going to be opened for public on the third day.

Secretary of Gujarat unit of ABVP, Yoti Gajare meanwhile in a statement said that the dean must be immediately expelled. DeshGujarat
