Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has decided to give an aid of Rs 2 per kg to the farmers on selling of onions in the APMCs across the districts of Saurashtra.
It will be applicable on a selling of maximum 25,000 kg which is equal to Rs 50,000. The state government has allotted an amount of Rs 100 crore for the aid, informed state agriculture minister Raghavji Patel.
The onion is cultivated in over 88,000 hectares of land in Saurashtra this year in the Rabi season, which led to more than the average production. There was a large income of onions in various APMCs across Saurashtra. So, the selling prices of onions decreased in the APMCs across Saurashtra from 1st April. The state government had received many appeals from farmers and farmers unions to give financial relief because of not getting adequate prices. Agriculture minister Raghavji Patel informed further that the aid will be deposited in the farmers’ account through DBT. DeshGujarat
