Dudhai sub branch of canal supplying Narmada water to Kutch to be extended till Kunariya

Gandhinagar: Representations made by farmers, politicians and office bearers from Anjar and Bhuj talukas of Kutch before the chief minister Bhupendra Patel have borne fruit. It has been agreed upon at a review meeting held under the chairmanship of chief minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar that the Dudhai sub branch of the canal supplying Narmada water to Kutch district will be extended by a further 45 kilometers, up to Kunariya.

The extension of the Dudhai sub branch will also facilitate the storage of Narmada water in the Rudramata dam when the Narmada overflows due to floods. This decision to further extend the Dudhai sub-branch canal up to Kunariya village of Bhuj taluka will allow another 13,175 acres in Anjar and Bhuj talukas to be irrigated with Narmada water. It will also alleviate the problem of drinking water and fodder for the cattle.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has also ordered the construction of 176 big structures as part of this 45 km long extension and also asked Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam to complete the work related to the expansion of infrastructure of the Dudhai sub branch.

It’s worth noting here that work on 23.025 km length of the Dudhai sub-branch (from Bhachau to Dudhai) and related expansion infrastructure is completed. DeshGujarat
