May 16, 2022
Patan: The police have registered an offence against 19 members of the Thakore community in the case of stone pelting of a marriage procession of Scheduled Caste (SC) groom in Bhatsan village of Patan district.
DySP of SC/ST cell has also opened an investigation into the matter.
DeshGujarat had late last week reported that the marriage procession of one Vijay Ramjibhai Parmar, was pelted with stones at Bhatasna village of Saraswati taluka in Patan district. The stone pelters, mainly from the Other Backward Class(OBC) community, had also allegedly used derogatory language for the groom’s caste. The police had immediately rushed to the spot and taken adequate steps to ensure that the situation did not deteriorate further.
The bridegroom and four women in the marriage procession had sustained minor injuries due to the stone pelting. Attempts were also made to snatch a purse full of money from Vijay’s father while the horse owner and the DJ player were threatened. It was only after the entire village was turned into a police camp that the procession along with the bridegroom could proceed towards Sampra village.
Vijay’s father filed the police complaint once the marriage ceremony was over. DeshGujarat
