Gujarat ATS nabs four wanted accused in year 1993 Mumbai blast case

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Police’s Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested four wanted accused in the year 1993 Mumbai blast cases. The arrested accused are identified as Abu Bakar, Yusuf Bhatka, Shoeb Baba and Sayyed Kureshi.

According to Police the accused had gathered at Dawood Ibrahim’s ‘White House’ residence in Dubai to plan serial bomb attacks on Mumbai, They had also attended a training camp in Pakistan before executing the attacks. 1993 Mumbai serial blasts had claimed 257 lives and left more than 1,000 injured.

The March 12, 1993, bomb blasts were carried out at several locations in Mumbai, including the Bombay Stock Exchange, Zaveri Bazaar, Katha Bazaar, Plaza Cinema and Fisherman’s Colony.

In the press conference, the senior official of Gujarat ATS said “Following a tip, the four accused were apprehended from Sardar Nagar area in Ahmedabad. They were carrying fake passports.

He added, “During the interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they had been at large for several years and that Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against each of them in the 1993 serial blast case.”

In reference to their role in the 1993 blast, the other official said, “In the investigation by PSI Korat, we found that they used to go by the name of ‘Arjun Gang’ and were close aids of famous smuggler Md. Ahmed Dosa. After Leaving India in 1993, these four accused met Daood Ibrahim in the Middle East, and as per his order, they went to Pakistan. And were trained in explosives devices and the use of arms and ammunition, before taking part in the Mumbai blast in India”.

He added, “The accused Abu Bakar had done the job of disposing of the remaining consignment of weapons in sea.”

These accused left India with fake passports after an investigation by Maharastra police & CBI revealed their roles in the 1993 blast and have been absconding since then.DeshGujarat
