Police Head Constable of Ahmedabad rural in ACB net for bribery

Gandhinagar: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday has detained a police head constable of Aslali police station in Ahmedabad rural for demanding a bribe of Rs 44,000 to go soft on the complainant’s son, who has a police case filed against him at the said police station for owning a stock of country liquor.

According to the complainant, the head constable, Vipul Manubhai Dantani, had demanded Rs 40,000 to not assault the complainant’s son in police custody and produce him before a court at the earliest. Dantani also asked for another Rs 4,000 to not take the complainant’s son’s mobile phone in custody.

The complainant had already paid Rs 20,000 but chose to contact the ACB on the toll free number at the time of payment of the rest of the amount. Accordingly, the police inspector, SN Barot, of ACB, Ahmedabad rural, arranged a trap in which Dantani was caught red handed accepting the outstanding sum of Rs 24,000 as bribe from the complainant.
