3,000 ineligible NFSA card holders removed from the list in Gandhinagar district

Gandhinagar: The state government has removed the names of over 3 thousand National Food Security Act (NFSA) card holders from the list in Gandhinagar district after finding them financially well-to-do.

The district supply office has started taking actions considering the instruction from the state government. As per the latest rules, around 3 thousand NFSA ration card holders are converted to non-NFSA. Dahegam taluka has the highest number of NFSA card holders converted to non NFSA which is 2695 followed by Kalol with 394 in the district.

There are 168292 NFSA card holders in Gandhinagar district. The administration will take legal actions if the evidence of financial wealth is found during the investigation of NFSA card holders. Various criteria are formed in the new rules. The families having any criteria out of these will not be able to benefit from NFSA card : having a four-wheeler, a government employee in the family, a member with monthly income of over Rs 10 thousand, a member paying income tax or business tax, having land over 5 acres, any member who is pensioner, a house with a paved terrace in urban area having an AC, a job with monthly income over Rs 10 thousand at any private company.
