Surat: At a time when the state government has decided to make Bhagwat Geeta a part of the academic curriculum, the principal of Sant Dongreji Maharaj Municipal Primary School in Surat is teaching online ‘shlokas’ of the Bhagwat Geeta to as many as 1,117 children during the summer vacation.
Principal Naresh Mehta translates the ‘shlokas’ of the Geeta from Sanskrit into Gujarati so that students can understand them better and try to follow in its footsteps. Mehta is rendering this service free of cost and in a very simple style.
Even Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has appreciated the efforts of Mehta. According to Mehta, he forwards a link on social media and conducts the class everyday between 10 and 11. Many students from outside Surat city also join this online class.
Though every house has a copy of the Geeta in their home, nobody reads it. This online class is conducted by Mehta to ensure that children read the Geeta which is already there at home. Mehta is also making attempts to get parents to join the online class along with their children.
