Sachin GIDC chemical Accident: Hikal co MD Sameer Hiremath arrested

Surat: The top official of a chemical company of Sachin GIDC, which was in the news when six labourers of Sachin GIDC died after inhaling toxic gas, appeared before the S.O.G on Monday where he was arrested but was released because he had been granted anticipatory bail. However, he was called again to record a detailed statement on Tuesday.

It would be worthwhile to recall that Samir Hiremath, Managing Director of Highcal Company, had been evading the law since early January since six laborers at Sachin GIDC died after inhaling toxic gas that was released when a tanker carrying a hazardous chemical from the company was illegally discharging it into the bay.

Local handler Sandeep Gupta and his brother were helping a chemical disposal company called Sangam Enviro which was operating without a valid licence to dispose hazardous chemicals into Sachin GIDC and Un bay, putting at risk lives of lakhs of Surti people. Amongst those disposing hazardous chemicals was HIghCal, a very well known company with revenue in billions of rupees. As a result, three high ranking officials of Highcal were arrested. Surat’s local mafia Sandeep Gupta is still reportedly absconding. DeshGujarat
