Rickshaw driver returns Rs 13 lakh diamonds lost by factory’s delivery man

Surat: Five packets of diamonds worth Rs 13 lakh, which the delivery man of a diamond factory in Surat lost accidentally, have been successfully recovered by the police from a rickshaw driver. On the other hand, the police commissioner also offered an “Encouragegment” award of Rs 11,000 for the rickshaw driver, who honestly kept them in safe custody for 8 days in order to return them to the rightful owner.

Jigar Dakshesh Thakar, who works as a deliveryman at the diamond factory, on May 18, 2022 was on his way to deliver the five packets of diamonds, which were kept inside his bag. However, he had left the zip of the bag open by mistake and the 16 diamonds worth Rs 13 lakh fell out of the bag. He had lodged a police complaint in this regard.

During their investigation, the police studied the footage of the CCTV cameras of the entire route that Jigar had travelled on and tracked down the rickshaw driver, Aslam Dadubhai Pachak. On being questioned, Aslam said that he had found the packets with the diamonds on the bridge between Varaccha Poddar Market and Hirabaug and that he had been holding them in his safe custody to return them to the rightful owner.

The police have received the packets containing the diamonds and have returned them to Jigar. Police Commisioner Ajay Tomar has lauded the honesty displayed by Aslam and given him Rs 11,000 as ‘Encouragement Award.’ DeshGujarat.
