May 28, 2022
Bharuch: The additional district magistrate JD Patel of Bharuch district has issued orders according to which nobody will be able to enter, begin construction activity or organize religious gatherings for the next 60 days without prior permission of the police on four islands in the Narmada river.
The islands where entry has been restricted without prior permission are Sarfuddin island, Dashan island, Mehgam island, Vegni island and Alia island.
The decision has been taken in public interest and to ensure a safety as well as security in the district.
Four of the five islands, namely, Sarfuddin, Dashan, Mehgam and Vegni only appear after the monsoon when the water level in the river goes down and are uninhabited. Only Alia island is a permanent island which doesn’t get submerged even during high tide and is inhabited by fishermen and cattle rearers. DeshGujarat
