Copyright case: Machine manufacturers and diamond factory owners to collectively fight legal battle

Surat: A meeting of representatives of diamond manufacturers and polishing machinery manufacturers was organized in the city on Monday by the Surat Diamond Machinery and Technology Association to discuss the issue of a copyright case an Israeli company has filed against four-diamond manufacturing companies and about 200 diamond factory owners.

The meeting ended with a declaration to begin breaking the Israeli company’s monopoly from Surat. The delegates at the meeting came with posters and placards urging industry players to use ‘Made in India’ machinery and to boycott foreign-made machinery.

Surat Diamond Association secretary Damjibhai Mavani informed that diamond machinery costing in the range of Rs 8 lakh and Rs 25 lakhs are available in Surat. Foreign companies are falsely interpreting the copyright law and filing cases under it. The association secretary also declared that they will collectively put up a fight against these copyright cases.

Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s regional chairman, Dinesh Nevadia said that the case of copyright violation against the diamond industry is a very complex issue. The diamond industry will not tolerate any false allegations levelled against it. Foreign companies have a monopoly over diamond cutting-polishing machinery but now machinery manufacturers of Surat will break it.

The industry is moving in the direction of developing diamond cutting and polishing machinery at the local level. DeshGujarat.
