Surat police arrest 3 for spreading communal hatred; Rajkot Police detain 5

Surat/Rajkot: The Athwa police in Surat have arrested three persons in the case of sticking posters of ex BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, with the impression of a shoe printed on them and for also making a message viral on Whatsapp calling up on Muslims to ensure that what happened in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand is also repeated in Gujarat.

Since last 2-3 days, a whatsapp video had gone viral in which two individuals could be seen sticking posters of Nupur Sharma with a symbol of a shoe printed on it. Another text message telling Muslims that their objective will not be met by merely printing 40-50 posters but more needed to be done to ensure that the events of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand get repeated here in Gujarat, was also made viral on whatsapp with the intention of spreading hatred between Hindus and Muslims.

On closer investigation of the viral video and text message the police have been able to track down Mohammed Taufiq Mohammed Rafiq Shaikh (resident of Chand Subedar Building, Nanpura) and Saddam Rauf Syed (resident of Jamalsha Mohalla, Kadasha Ni Naal), as the persons who were seen in the viral video sticking the posters of Nupur Sharma.

Interrogation of these two also led the police to Imran Habib Khan Pathan, who is an employee at a printing press in the city and printed the posters of Nupur Sharma for the duo.

The police have arrested all three of them.

In one of TV debates Nupur Sharma had stated, “they (the co panelist who was a Muslim) should be told to shut up and stop insulting our (Hindu) religion, otherwise, we are very capable of hitting them where it hurts. For example, they may want to call it (Gyanvvapi complex Shiv Ling) a fountain as much as they want but the reality is even the supreme court ordered the immediate protection of that area.”

She had further added, “Shall we start joking about your flying horses and the facts written in Kuran that Prophet Muhammad marries six year old and consummates the marriage when she turns nine… Earth is flat according to Quran 88 20 shall I speak about that just fly away on your flying horses…”

Nupur had later clarified that her remark was quoted from Hadith and she was ready to debate with any Muslim scholar regarding presence of the quoted remarks in Hadith.
