IMAX Theater at Gujarat Science City to be modernized at a cost of Rs 25 crore

Gandhinagar: A project to redevelop the IMAX theatre at the Science city in mega-city Ahmedabad is being undertaken. The theater is currently closed and is only used to play old movies for special guests. The reason for the theater being shut is that new reel-based films cannot be played in a facility meant for old reel technology-based films.

The Science and Technology Department has entered into a contract with the IMAX company to transform the theater by developing a new projector, and a new sound system, at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

The plans are also for developing a plaza by changing the interiors fundamentally of the theater, create a seating facility for people coming to buy tickets, and by installing solar panels in the 4,000 square meter parking area.

Currently, the panel of six designers have been assigned work to prepare a design of the plaza, interiors and the parking area. Once the designs are finalized, work will be allocated on the basis of competitive bidding. The entire project, including the installing of a new system for the theater, will cost an estimated Rs 25 crore.

People will be able to watch the latest movies at the renovated theater after every six months from April 2023 onwards. DeshGujarat
