Surat: The facilities at government schools are also getting better with each passing day but parents in thrall of private schools don’t send their children to government schools.
However, there are still a few principals and teachers who want more and more students to get enrolled in their government-run school.
The Udhna, Pandesara, Sachin GIDC areas of Surat has mostly people who have come to the city for bread-and-butter issues from other states. These people don’t enroll their children in any school at all. On the other hand, local people have the impression that academic activities and facilities at government schools are shoddy.
The principal and teachers of Sri Damodar Charsekar Kumar school (school no: 222) are working to rid the people of this impression of government-run schools and ensure that even children of laborers receive good education.
The principal of the school, Chandrashekhar Prakash Nikam along with the teacher, Mukesh Kashinath Chowdhury personally go in residential areas between 7 am and 9 am to convince parents to send their wards to their school. Fifteen minutes after arriving in school at 7 am, a group of 7 or 8 students go to different areas with a microphone in hand.
They educate the parents about all the facilities available at their school. They also provide uniforms, textbooks and shoes free of cost. Children are also taught how to use computers and their bank accounts have also been opened under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. Because of these efforts, new students have begun getting enrolled in the school. DeshGujarat.
