Strike of resident doctors in Gujarat ends on the 14th Day

Ahmedabad: Around 4000 resident doctors have called off their strike against the health department. The 13-day strike ended on the 14th day today. As a result, Covid and Emergency Ward, as well as OPD services will be restored today after 13 days.

After a meeting between top health officials, deans of medical colleges and civil superintendents yesterday. It was made clear to the striking doctors that their residency will stand revoked if the strike is continuous.

And if the doctor’s residency is revoked the rules stipulate that the doctors will have to pay a bond of Rs 40 lakh. In which case, the residents had no choice but to call off the strike.

Resident doctors of Gujarat went on an indefinite strike on June 15 to put pressure on the state government to consider 12 months of their senior residency as mandatory bond service.

The health department was adamant that any talks would take place only after the strike ended. So the doctors had no choice but to call off the strike. After all the striking doctors return to duty, a meeting with Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel is likely to be held on the demand to include senior residency in the bond. DeshGujarat
