ICG ship with survivors of sinking ship reach Porbandar coast

Porbandar: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship with survivors which were rescued yesterday from sinking Merchant Vessel, 185 km from Porbandar coast has entered Porbandar harbour today. All 22 crew including 01 Pakistani & 01 Sri Lankan are safe. The crew, though exhausted, expressed their gratitude to ICG for a miraculous rescue operation.
On 06 Jul 22, when Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters, Porbandar received a distress alert from merchant vessel Global King-1, it launched rescue mission through 02 Dornier aircraft, 02 Advanced Light Helicopters from its Air Enclave at Porbandar and diverted 01 Offshore Patrol Class Ship in highly adverse weather conditions. The crew those were picked up from survival life raft by helicopter were transferred to ship one after another. Whole operation lasted for approx 08 hours, culminating in rescue of all 22 personnel. It may be appreciated that Indian Coast Guard is National Maritime SAR (Search and Rescue) Coordinating Authority of Govt of India, mandated to coordinate maritime SAR in Indian SAR region and that in Indo-Pacific region.
