Narmada water reach Aji 1 dam; Thanks to SAUNI yojana, Aji filled third time this year with water

Rajkot: To ensure that people of Rajkot do not face problem of drinking water, the state government has for the third time this year begun discharging Narmada water into Aji 1 dam under ‘Sauni Yojana’. The Narmada water arrived in Aji 1 dam at around 4 am today.

Water from Dholidhaja dam was released by way of a 100 kilometre long pipeline into Aji 1 dam two days back as part of Sauni Yojana. The Narmada water had reached Tramba pumping station by noon yesterday and reached Aji 1 dam today at dawn, filling up 7 checkdams of Tramba and Kalipat enroute.

As many as 450 cusecs water will be released daily into Aji 1 dam till such time sufficient rains do not result in fresh income of water in the reservoir. According to sources in the irrigation department, 180 MCFT more water will be released into Aji 1 dam.

The Narmada water is being discharged into Aji 1 after the Rajkot civic body made an appeal to the state government to ensure that the city doesn’t face a drinking water crisis. DeshGujarat
