Land acquisition for Bharatmala Project runs into rough weather in Mehsana

Mehsana: Land acquisition for the Ahmedabad-Tharad express way being developed as part of the center’s Bharatmala project has started facing lot of opposition from local farmers of Mehsana district. Farmers from 40 villages of the district held a rally against the process of land acquisition for the express way and also submitted a memorandum to the district collector against it.

The memorandum mentions that there is an urgent need to resolve 11 issues with regards to land acquisition. If the issues with regards to the land acquisition are not resolved, the farmers have threatened to start an agitation and delay the proposed project.

As long as a 44 kilometer stretch of the Ahmedabad-Tharad expressway will pass through Mehsana district. For this purpose, land has been proposed to be acquired in 1,870 survey numbers of Unjha, Visnagar and Mehsana talukas.

The National Highway Authority of India has issued a notification for the land acquisition telling farmers to come forward with any of their objections within 21 days. The farmers are alleging that the process of land acquisition has failed to take them into confidence. DeshGujarat
