Guru Purnima to be observed on Wednesday in the Purvashadha Nakshatra

Ahmedabad: Gurujis have been accorded a special status by the Hindu scriptures. Each year on the Ashadh Sud Punam is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima to commemorate the invaluable contribution made by the teacher in an individual’s life under Hindu beliefs.

In keeping with this tradition, Guru Purnima will be celebrated with great fanfare on Wednesday (July 13) in the ‘Purvashadha Nakshatra’ and ‘Aindra Yoga.’

From 4.02 am on Chaudash ‘Kshay Tithi’ to 12.08 after midnight on Wednesday will be considered as Guru Purnima. It will be observed by way of offering worship, holding religious rituals and Maha-arti. Even spiritual organizations will hold special programs on the occasion of Gurupurnima.

The day is celebrated in schools and colleges by sending good wishes to teachers and principals of schools and colleges. It is a day of pampering the Gods, and holding Maha-arti and Maha-prasadi in all Guru-temples and other such temples. Spiritual organizations carry out social work on this occasion. This day is also believed to be the birthday of revered Hindu sage, Veda Vyas.
