Gujarat to get three Vehicle-scrapping Units
July 18, 2022
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat state transport department has given nod for setting up three registered automobile scrapping facilities in the state.
Out of these three, two facilities will get erected in Kheda and one in Bhavnagar, with an estimated cost of around 17 crores per facility.
Registered vehicle scrapping facilities (RVSFs) will be spread over approximately one acre each.
The new vehicle scrapping policy will be implemented in two phases, the first for commercial vehicles on April 1, 2023, and the second for private vehicles on June 1, 2024.
As per the new rules, Vehicles older than 15 years will have to be examined at a computerized testing unit. Vehicles that pass these fitness and emission tests will be re-register, but if Certified as “End of life” the automobile will have to be scrapped.
According to the officials, the faults in the vehicle will be specified after the test and if the owner wants to resue that vehicle he will have to get it fixed and take a retest.
Also, if the “End of Life” certificate is given after the testing, the owner will have one more chance to appeal at the RTO where his vehicle is registered.
The RVSFs will be linked with the Vahan portal so that in case of “End of life” certification after the test, the concerned RTO can cancel the registration, an official informed.
