MoS Harsh Sanghavi shares details of police actions in Chemical drink tragedy

Gandhinagar: Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi in his briefing today shared the details of police actions after a hooch tragedy in which 42 persons are dead in latest and 97 are under treatment. Three patients are in serious condition while the others are settled.

MoS Harsh Sanghavi said: Total 30 police teams were formed involving over 2500 police jawans. They visited the farms and villages of affected areas to find out the victims who had consumed chemical. The victims were traced and taken to nearby hospitals. An extra number of dialysis machines were brought in Bhavnagar based hospital. Many lives were saved with these efforts.

The biggest challenge was to find a 600 liter chemical which was stolen. If it was not captured within hours and reached elsewhere then more deaths could be there. Police did combing for 36 hours constantly and captured over 500 liter chemical. The Police matched the stock point to point in milliliter size.

A committee led by IPS Subhash Trivedi will submit a probe report in three days for required steps against the accused. Gujarat Police will complete chargesheet within ten days and bring this case to fast-track court for fast justice. A special Public Prosecutor is going to be appointed. A total of 15 accused are nabbed in this case. The way the police did its job in all directions day and night, all accused were held. Gujarat Police has nabbed the most wanted bootleggers like Nagdan Gadhvi, Alkesh Bakroliya or Pintu alias Gorakh Bhimrao Gadri. Gadri is one of top ten wanted ones. He was on run since 2019.

A letter of Sarpanch ( complaining police regarding country liquor dens in the village) has been widely published by the media. After that letter, raids were conducted six times. I was listening to the citizens of that village today. The locals of that villages were telling the news channel that for last twenty days, the country liquor dens were forced to shut by police. And therefore instead of country liquor, the bootleggers were compelled to bring chemical from outside.

How to control such chemicals, how to monitor them even more effectively are the topics that were discussed at a high level yesterday by the Government. The home department will step in coming days to take steps in this connection.

In prima facie investigation, the accused who had stolen the chemical has stated that the wastage of chemical is not mention in the final account of stock and he had stolen chemical from that portion of stock. However the Anti Terrorist Squad(ATS) is probing into it and all those who are found involved in this case will face actions. DeshGujarat
