Gujarat firms spent Rs 1400 crore under CSR in 2020–2021

Ahmedabad: The Ministry of Corporate Affairs informed the Parliament that Private and Public Companies spent about 1400 crore as part of their CSR activities during 2020-21.
Responding to Kutch BJP MP Vinod Chavda, the Ministry informed that Rs. 100.79 Crore was spent by Public sector undertaking in 20-21. Meanwhile, the amount spent by private sector firms stands at Rs 1296.48 crore.
This total amount of Rs. 1397.26 Crore is about 400 crores higher than the amount spent in 2019-20, which was 982.53 crores only.
The MP also demanded information on the activities undertaken by Companies under Corporate Social Responsibility in Gujarat. The Govvenmants replied with a sector-wise detail of the expenditure.
The data showed that the top priority of companies’ CSR policy remained Health Care as Rs 588.24 crore was spent on it. The education sector stood at the second position with an expenditure of Rs 401.71 crore.
The reply that contained the CSR spending by Gujarati companies from 2016 to 2021 shows a steady increase each year with just a minor decline in 2019-20.
