Gandhinagar: 21 gates of Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam were opened today at 5 pm in 2.90 meter size for release of 4.95 lakh cusecs water in downstream. The gates were previously opened in 2.25 meter size. They are further opened for release of water coming from upstream areas due to release of water from Omkareshwar dam.

In addition to release of 4.50 lakh cusecs water from gates, further 45,000 cusecs water is being released from hydro power station. Thus the total release to Narmada river is around 4.95 lakh.

The government has alerted Karjan, Dabhoi and Shinor talukas against venturing into the river bed. DeshGujarat
