NIA arrests 2 including Delhi based club owner in 3,000-kg Mundra port drug case

New Delhi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday, arrested a Businessman based in Delhi in a Mundra Port drug seizure case. The detained Kabir Talwar also known as Harpreet Talwar, runs a Night club named Playboy in Delhi’s Samrat Hotel.

The NIA has also taken into custody another businessman named Prince Sharma as part of the investigation.

As per the reports, The arrested accused are a part of an international drug smuggling network. Furthermore, the accused are involved in the importation of narcotics via Shell companies and their distribution in a number of states.

The official statement from NIA states, “The arrested accused are a part of an international drug smuggling network involved in smuggling of large commercial quantities of heroin originating from Afghanistan into India. Heroin was being concealed in import consignments of material, such as semi-processed talc, bituminous coal, etc.”

“The accused were involved in the import of narcotics through fake/shell import companies and further facilitated its transport to Delhi-based Afghan nationals involved in purification and distribution of heroin in many states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and UP,” the statement further added.

In September 2021, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 2,988 kg of heroin worth Rs 21,000 crore. Later, NIA took over the case from DRI on the directives of the Union home ministry and registered a criminal complaint under sections of the NDPSA and UAPA.
