SMC to convert 60% city bus fleet into electric by 2023

Surat: Surat city'[s Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani informed that Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) aims to convert 60 percent of the SMC-run buses into electric buses by the end of 2023.
There are a total of 788 buses operating in the city including city buses and BRTS. There are 82 electric buses out of the total 788 buses, which is 10.40 percent of the total buses. SMC had ordered 150 e-buses initially, out of which 88 buses were received. However, SMC has ordered a total of 450 buses and put across the demand of an extra 150 buses to CSL. So, SMC plans to run a total of 600 e-buses. Therefore Surat will have 600 e-buses out of 788 buses.
