Gujarat Police fastest in investigating cases : NCRB Report

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Police is proven to be the best when it comes to completing investigations and disposing of cases. Over the past three years, the pendency percentage of police cases in the state has been the lowest in the country.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, in 2021, the state had only 1.7 percent of the cases pending in the investigation. In the previous year, Gujarat police disposed of 4.65 lakh cases and only 8,272 cases were pending for investigations by the end of the year.

99.8 % is the charge sheet rate in Gujarat, which is the highest in the whole country.

Proving the reason for such speedy investigation a senior cop said that one of the key reasons is that Gujarat police has separate teams for different kinds of specific cases. For example, If the case is of serious nature, it is either handed over to the crime branch or other special squad which completes the investigations swiftly.

Due to regular supervision and pressure by senior police officials for prompt action. In some cases, the cops first track down the accused while filing the FIR and hence charge sheets are filed timely with evidence, the official added.

This performance of the Gujarat police has gotten better over the years. In 2019, the pendency rate was just 4.5 percent and in 2020 it got better and came down to 3.1 percent.
