Fire in chemical factory in Surat injures 20 and kills 4

Surat: A major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Sachin GIDC of Surat city on Saturday, killing four people and injuring at least 20 others.
According to Chief Fire Officer Basant Pareek, a blast in a chemical container at about 10:30 pm started the fire in the unit of Anupam Rasayan India Limited, located in Sachin. As soon as the fire was reported, 15 firefighters rushed to the scene. After two hours of hectic efforts, the fire was put out.
“Four labourers were killed and around 20 were injured in a massive fire at around 10pm last night in Anupam Rasayan factory located in the Sachin Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area,”said ACP R L Mavani, Surat Police.
The company Anupam Rasayan issued a statement and said, the unfortunate fire incident occurred at one of the manufacturing blocks of the factory. The cause of the incident is being investigated by our special team and the 20 people injured are getting treatment in hospital.
“Our priority is currently our workers and employees. As a responsible corporate, we stand committed to supporting our affected employees and their families,” the statement further said.
The four deceased were identified as Ankur Patel (35), a resident of Pandesara, Rakesh Chaudhary (31), a resident of Vadod village, Prabhat Jha (23), a resident of Antroli village in Surat district, and Sanjay Sinhora (28), a resident of Pandesara.
