Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a Semiconductor and Display FAB unit in the State. The MoU was signed in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Vedanta group chairman Anil Agarwal, Mr. Brian – the Vice President of Foxconn group, Akarsh Hebbar – promoter of Vedanta group among others.  The event was organized at Leela hotel in State capital Gandhinagar on the occasion of completion of one year of Bhupendra Patel government in office.  The Patel government had announced India’s first and only dedicated policy for Semiconductor by any State. The  government had also set up a dedicated mission for electronics development in the State.

Anil Agarwal of Vedanta said, it was an independent decision to set up the plant in Gujarat. He said it will flourish (to other States) in a cluster manner. He said we need a University around the plant like in Taiwan where all factories are located around the university. Agrawal said India will be the fourth country after China, Japan and Taiwan to have such a facility. He said this has been a ten-year old team. He said he has not seen such excitement in his lifetime. Direct employment to one lakh will come immediately. He said the costlier iPhone, cars, TV affect our middle-class people. If basic things like semiconductors are manufactured in India it will immensely benefit the people here. Agrawal said he intends to start to roll it out in two years. DeshGujarat
