PM Modi to inaugurate Phase-I of Ahmedabad Metro on Sept 30

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Phase-I of the much-awaited Ahmedabad Metro on September 30, 2022 which has been successfully completed under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. It will cover 21-km distance connecting Thaltej Apparel Park. Developed at a total cost of ₹12,925 crore, phase-I of this ambitious project involves a 40-km stretch which includes 32 corridors.

The Thaltej-Vastral route in the East-West corridor has 17 stations. This corridor also has a 6.6 km underground section with four stations. The 19 km North-South corridor that connects APMC to Motera Stadium has 15 stations. This metro corridor will have 96 coaches, 129 elevators, 161 escalators, and 126 entry/exit points.

Minimum Fare ₹5

This project was sanctioned in 2014 and has generated 910 lakh man days of employment. According to guidelines set by National Building Code (NBC), the metro station is equipped with tactile pathways, ticket counters at lower heights, braille call buttons, handrails, restrooms and wheelchairs for specially-abled persons.

CCTV cameras have been installed at every station along with SRPF personnel and private staff guarding the premises. The tickets are priced between ₹5-25, based on the distance.

Connecting East-West corridor*

Thaltej, Doordarshan Kendra, Gurukul Road, Gujarat University, Commerce Six Roads, SP Stadium, Old High Court, Shahpur, Gheekanta, Kalupur Railway Station, Kankaria (East), Apparel Park, Amraiwadi, Rabari Colony, Vastral, Nirant Crossroad, and Vastral Gaam.

Phase-II stretched till Gandhinagar

The second phase of the Metro project will connect the state capital Gandhinagar with Ahmedabad, which will essentially be the expansion of the first phase. This phase will have two corridors including 22.8 km from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir, having 20 stations and a 5.4 km route from Gujarat National Law University to GIFT City having two stations. The entire Phase-II will be on an elevated route.
