Amdavad: The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) started the commercial operations of Ahmedabad Metro’s 18.87-kilometre North-South corridor from APMC to Motera Stadium on October 6.

The line is completely elevated. It will connect Motera Stadium to APMC, Vasna and will be passing through Sabarmati, AEC, Sabarmati Railway station, Ranip, Vadaj, Vijaynagar, Usmanpura, Old High court, Gandhigram, Paldi, Shreyas, Rajivnagar and Jivraj stations. The stretch has 15 stations and all of them are elevated.

This is the second corridor of Phase-1 of the project which consists of East-West and North-South corridors, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 30. While on the East-West Corridor, commercial operations on the 40.03-kilometre network began on October 2, the North-South corridor became operational today.

According to the sources in GMRC, the dates of opening both corridors were kept separate to avoid the initial rush of passengers.

On the first day of Metro operations on the East-West corridor, 41,700 passengers took the ride. Tickets are priced between Rs 5 and Rs 25. GMRC operated 72 trips on October 2.
