GMRC increases frequency of Ahmedabad metro amid huge rush

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has increased the frequency of the metro train at the corridors with high traffic of passengers.

Both corridors of the metro train in Ahmedabad have received a good response from the passengers, especially during weekends. Gujarat Metro Rail corporation is operating the trains at every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes some days due to high passenger traffic. The corporation has decided to run the trains every 15 minutes at the corridors with high passenger rush during the Diwali holidays.

A senior official from the metro informed, that there will be no change in the schedule of the metro train from 9 am to 8 pm as there are fixed duty hours of the drivers of the metro trains. However, the frequency will be changed to 15 minutes, 18 minutes or 20 minutes; instead of 30 minutes, if the traffic increases, he added.

Total 6.39 lakh passengers travelled through the metro in the East-West corridor within 23 days after its start. Similarly, total 2.25 lakh passengers travelled through the metro in the North-South corridor within 18 days after its start. Thus, total 8.64 lakh passengers travelled through both corridors, which generated a revenue of Rs 1.37 crore for the metro. The revenue generated from the East-West corridor is above Rs 1 crore.
