Delhi AQI near 400, Punjab stubble burning up by 33% but Kejriwal and Mann camping in Gujarat

New Delhi: Air Quality Index has gone up near the 400 mark in Delhi today thanks to the the pollution created by stubble burning in the farms of Punjab that have increased 33% when compared to last year. Both the states are ruled by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and while Delhites are suffering from extremely bad air, The chief ministers of Delhi and Punjab Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann are busy trying luck for AAP in Gujarat elections.

As per the reports there have been 10,214 farm fires in AAP-ruled Punjab, 33% more than last year. The highest number of stubble-burning cases are in Sangrur, the constituency of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, who is also touring Gujarat with the AAP chief Kejriwal.

The AAP government blamed crackers for pollution and banned them before the Hindu festival Diwali, but the AQI of the state deteriorated even after the ban because of stubble burning in Punjab.

Various Journalists and Twitter users have called out the AAP government for its failure to proving Delhites with clean air.

Columnist Anand Ranganathan tweeted, “For those blaming Diwali for the state of Delhi air, here’s some perspective: An area of 17,900 sqkm, or 12 times the size of Delhi, is on fire, right now, right next to Delhi. 35 million tonnes of stubble is being burnt. This is the current situation in Punjab. Absolute MURDER.”

Senior Journalist Ajay Kumar wrote ” Today’s AQI in Delhi is 400+, the government of Delhi is busy preparing for Gujarat elections. Under the government of Punjab, 33% increase in stubble burning compared to last year – 10,214 cases registered now. In both the states the government is of AAP but people are left to GOD Jai Ho.”

Another user wrote that “33% more Farm Fires reaching 10,214 from AAP ruled Punjab. Please let me know if you have seen Bhagwant Mann and Kejriwal being grilled on this while Delhi Chokes”
