Video tour of Morbi hanging bridge four days ago when it was reopened after repair

Morbi: Morbi based news website Morbi Update had four days ago visited the newly reopened and repaired hanging bridge of Morbi and made the visit live in video on social media platforms. Presented here is a Facebook video of the same visit. One thing to notice is some youngsters who were behaving in irresponsible manner and tried to shake the bridge with force. Another thing to notice is a gentleman who told Morbi Update that there was too much load in the middle portion of the bridge. One more gentleman after his visit told Morbi Update that some visitors were behaving irresponsibly. The correspondent of Morbi Update also showed in the video some broken channels of the bridge. One interesting thing was a sign board in which it was clearly mentioned that ‘you are under CCTV vigil’. It means there was CCTV vigil and, CCTV footage of the incident could be there.

The bridge was developed by Devprakash Solution for Oreva. In this repaired bridge, the wooden floor was replaced with honeycomb sheets aluminium. In a pre-reopening video visit by Morbi Update, Oreva officials say that if people cooperate and take care of this bridge well then this bridge can survive for over a decade. Oreva officials said that Oreva owner used to jump from this bridge in his childhood and therefore he has a special attachment with this bridge and so he has adopted it.

It’s worth noting that the bridge was in poor condition last year and it was closed for public. In March this year, the local administration and the district collector held meeting with local major engineering company Oreva and the bridge was handed over to Oreva for fifteen years for repair, maintenance and operation. After some seven months long repair, Oreva had declared the bridge opened on Gujarati new year day and started allowing people to visit it in exchange for tickets as maintenance cost. In a related press conference it was declared by Oreva that the bridge will face no issue for the next ten – fifteen years. The bridge collapsed last evening, resulting into deaths of nearly 100 people. DeshGujarat
