After going back home, don’t waste money on second function: PM to newlyweds in mass wedding function in Bhavnagar

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi today evening while attending the mass wedding function organized by Lakhani family here hailed various social initiatives of public good done by the people.

Admiring the Lakhani family for organizing a mass wedding of daughters who have lost their fathers, PM Modi said this event will inspire the people of Gujarat. PM said earlier there was competition at the caste and community level for holding grand wedding functions even by bearing debt, but slowly mass weddings started gaining acceptance. He said the State government had started the Kunvarbai nu Mameru scheme to encourage this. PM recalled that he would go to mass wedding functions as CM of Gujarat but he later observed that after the mass wedding function when the family would reach home, the relatives would come and insist that a separate function needs to be held for close relatives. Under the pressure of family, the second function would take place then and the family would bear the burden of debt. PM asked the participants of this mass wedding function not to hold the second function after going back home.

PM hailed Lakhani, family, for holding the mass wedding function and said, many people have money (dhan) but Lakhni family’s heart (mann) is visible here. PM further stated that while Lagn is being organized today, Lakhani Pariwar’s Lagni (desire) is also visible. PM said he was invited to this function about six months ago. He said the Lakhani family’s Samskar, Sadbhav and Shraddha are very visible.

PM said it is Gujarat’s specialty that something for the community is done always. PM asked newlyweds to see that none remain illiterate. PM also admired Gujarat BJP for holding a drive again malnutrition by adopting malnourished children and adopting them. PM also admired the union Health department for starting a movement for adopting TB patients. PM said the world aims to become TB-free in 2030 but India is willing to do this in 2025 itself. After the drive to adopt TB patients was launched, so many people came forward in response that there are more people adopting TB patients now than the number of TB patients.

PM recalled how as a Chief Minister of Gujarat he had started a drive to collect used toys so that such toys can be given to poor children in Anganwadi. He recalled that the party workers from Bhavnagar had collected a tempo full of toys. The PM said the power of society is infinite. PM advised people not to waste food, and dispose of dry and wet waste separately.

The PM said that this is not Lagn Utsav but Punya Utsav. He said the blessings of daughters are invaluable and he himself has experienced the power of blessings of daughters, sisters, and mothers. DeshGujarat
