Jayesh Patel extradition case: Hearing concludes in London, Order likely in March 2023

London: Jayesh Patel, a land mafia gangster accused of contract killings was facing an extradition trial in Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London which concluded on Tuesday. March 3, 2023, is set as a provisional date for handing down the judgement.

Accused of being the mastermind behind the murder of Jamnagar lawyer Kirit Joshi in 2018, Jayesh Patel (43) entered the United Kingdom with fake documents and was arrested in London on March 16, 2021. Since then he is in Belmarsh Prison in London and the Indian Government has requested his extradition.

An Indian government representative, Claire Dobbin KC, told the court that the UK had a “public interest” in complying with treaty obligations. The Supreme Court refused to hear the case of wanted diamantaire Nirav Modi even though he claimed depression and suicidal thoughts. The court was not satisfied that his mental condition made extraditing him oppressively.”

Patel’s attorney argued against extradition on the grounds that Jayesh has “worsening mental health- consumed by guilt and pessimism and losing control.”
