Gandhinagar: During the visit of union minister for Roads and Transport Nitin Gadkari in Gujarat, the ministry has shared a note titled as  ‘Brief for projects being implemented by NHAI & State R&B (NH) In the State of  Gujarat Status as on date 19^th January 2023′. Presented below is the note in full text: 

Since its independence, India has made tremendous progress across various sectors including infrastructure and it’s no surprise that we have grown to become the world’s fifth-largest economy.

The infrastructure sector is the cornerstone of the Indian economy. Being one of the most resilient sectors, it has played a crucial role in accelerating India’s overall development. Today, India has one of the world’s largest road networks and we are among the fastest developers of highways in the world.

India is giving high priority to the development of its highway infrastructure. From Greenfield expressways and smart highways and to all-weather tunnels and mega bridges, India’s highway infrastructure is truly becoming world-class.

Led by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, NHAI is working tirelessly towards realising the Government’s vision of holistic infrastructure development and enabling easier interconnectivity between road, rail, air, and waterways.

 Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway

Brief:

NHAI has taken up the work of development of 04 lane Ahmedabad – Dholera Greenfield Expressway having total length 109.019 km on the request of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) which primarily caters to the Special Investment Region coming up at Dholera. The project is taking off from Ch. 0+000 at Sardar Patel ring road near Village Visalpur in Ahmedabad District and ending at Ch. 109+019 after Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) near Adhelai Village in Bhavnagar District. This 109.019 km long expressway is taken up under 04 packages and brief details are as follows:

2. The expressway will be a lifeline for the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) and develop direct connectivity to coastal highway. The proposed corridor will pass through the Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar Districts of Gujarat State and will provide direct connectivity to DSIR from Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar. Thus, the expressway will leave no stone unturned for socio economic development of this area.

 

3. Present distance to reach Dholera from Sardar Patel Ring Road (SPRR), Ahmedabad is 100 km and travel time is 2hrs:15min which will be reduced to 83km and 45min respectively after construction of expressway. Similarly, Distance to reach Bhavnagar from SPRR, Ahmedabad will reduce from 169km to 141km and travel time will reduce from 3Hrs:15min to 1Hrs:45min.

 

4. 4-lane access-controlled Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway is proposed to be implemented under EPC mode at a total capital cost of Rs.4,110 Cr. It shall have closed tolling arrangements. Further, 26m median is proposed to accommodate future 08 lane widening in inner side.

 

5. 02 nos. Wayside amenities of World class level are planned across the expressway at intervals of about 50 km on either side to improve rider comfort and to enable safer travel.

 

6. 20 Lakh Metric Ton of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation waste material and 25 Lakh Metric Ton of Pond Ash generated from Power Plant is being used as substitute of earth/soil as filling material that will help in conservation of minor mineral (soil) and disposal of harmful waste thereby leading to environment conservation along with boosting of innovative technology.

1. National Highways network

 

1. Expansion of NH network: The total NH network is the State of Gujarat was 3946 km until 2014. The NH network has been expanded to 7283 km by adding 3337 km to the NH network in the State of Gujarat during last 8 years i.e growth of 84.57 % in the NH network in the State of Gujarat in last 8 years.

 

2. Connecting all Districts with NH: All 33 districts in the State of Gujarat now have connectivity to a robust network of National Highways. The NH network density in Gujarat now is 36.93 km/ 1000 sq km against National average of 39.90 km/1000 sq km. The population density of NH network in Gujarat is 12 km / Lakh population against national average of 10.80 km / Lakh population.

 

1. Development and improvement of National Highways in the State of Gujarat

 

1. Sanction of new works for development of National Highways: For development and improvement of National Highways, 81 nos. of works of total length 1976 km with total cost of Rs.52,775 Cr have been approved in last 8 years. This includes 657 km length of Expressways. In addition to these works another 22 works are in planning stage which will cover 1366 Kms of NH stretch at a cost of Rs.30,908 Crs. With this approximately Rs.1,08,690 Cr are being spend for Construction and Improvement of National Highways in the State of Gujarat.
