Gujarat accounts for 23% of India’s Wind Energy and 13.6% of Solar Energy Capacity

Gandhinagar: Gujarat is the leader in rooftop solar power generation, with over 4.5 lakh households generating 1,584 megawatts of solar power, said Minister of State for Energy, Mukesh Patel in the state assembly on Tuesday.
Patel provided this information in response to a question from Akota MLA Chaitanya Desai, stating that as of December 31, 2022, the state had installed capacity of 9,712 megawatts for wind energy and 8,640 megawatts for solar power. Patel added that Gujarat accounted for 23% of the country’s installed capacity of wind energy and 13.6% of installed solar energy capacity.
He also provided a district-wise breakdown of the installed capacity of wind energy in the state, with Kutch having the highest capacity of 4,906.68 megawatts. Patel further stated that the project to install solar rooftop systems in individual homes was initiated by the then-chief minister and now-prime minister Narendra Modi in 2009-10, and Gujarat has been at the forefront of this initiative in the country.
