BBC documentary a result of Modi phobia and India phobia; Gujarat Assembly passes resolution

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Assembly today passed a resolution against a BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots. Speaking on this resolution, Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi told in the State Assembly that a BBC documentary was an attempt to defame global leader Narendra Modi at the international level. Sanghavi said 135 crore countrymen will never allow such an attempt to succeed.

Describing the BBC documentary as an anti-India propaganda toolkit, Sanghavi said it’s a documentary against the person who did tapasya and dedicated his life to the nation and the state.

Sanghavi said the probe commission has in its report clearly stated that there was no role of political party or organization in the incidents but anti-India elements continue to do agenda-based propaganda. While the chain pulling at Godhra railway station and burning of Kar sevaks was a pre-planned conspiracy, the riots that happened after that across Gujarat were spontaneous.

Sanghavi further stated that Nanavati and Shah commission had also given clean chit in Godhra incidents.

A resolution against the BBC documentary was moved by ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Vipul Patel.

The minister in his address said that BBC’s this documentary film ‘India: The Modi Question’ is an example of Modi phobia and India phobia. Hypocrite BBC has adopted an anti-India stand since 2014. BBC had also made a documentary on Delhi’s Nirbhaya incident and instead of advocating for justice to the daughter, BBC tried to cover up the accused.

Sanghavi said PM Modi is working day and night and doing hard work for 18 hours daily to make India, the number one country. Under his leadership, India is presiding over G20. Sanghavi said there’s anger against BBC nationwide.

Sanghavi said, even after 20 years of Godhra incidents, BBC is conspiring against India. Crores of people of India democratically elected Narendrabhai Modi as the Prime minister. So-called news channels, and journalists have conspired to defame India and crores of Indians in the name of press freedom, the minister added. He further stated that the documentary is not actually just against Narendra Modi but against 135 crore Indians. The strong leadership of India is disliked by anti-India country and therefore at the global level, propaganda is run to tarnish the image of India and Modi.

Sanghavi said – 59 innocent persons were killed in a train in Godhra which triggered spontaneous anger among people and resulted into riots. In order to take the situation under control, the army was airlifted. The State government had formed the KG Shah probe commission and appointed retired justice GT Nanavati as chair and retired High Court Justice kG Shah as a member. The government had put the function of the Chief Minister and his ministers under its purview and created history. The probe commission had concluded in its report that the burning of the train was a pre-planned conspiracy while riots post-27 February were spontaneous.

MLA Vipul Patel said that the Supreme Court of India has in its verdict strongly denied any collusion or lethargy on part of the Gujarat government in reference to the 2002 Gujarat violence. BBC is playing a negative role by releasing a documentary 20 years after the incidents.

He added that some elements and NGOs that are functioning as arms of foreign governments attempted their best by approaching the metro court, High Court, and Supreme Court but they didn’t succeed. BBC is losing its credibility and it appears that it is working against India and the Indian government with some secret agenda.

Patel added that the house urges the Central government to take strict steps against the humbug conclusions of the BBC documentary.

Opposition Congress party legislators had created a ruckus ahead of resolution and related discussion and attracted suspension from the house. BJP legislators gave standing ovation in support of the resolution.
