Stray dog and cattle menace: SMC to set up new cattle and dog sheds

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will set up a cattle shed to accommodate over 400 cattle in Rander area of the city in order to curb the menacing stray cattle. SMC will also build a facility to lock over 500 stray dogs.

A proposal is handed over for the approval of the standing committee to build a cattle shed at a cost of Rs 4.64 crore to keep stray cattle. There is already a cattle shed of 300 cattle capacity built by SMC in Bhestan. Increased capacity will result in more capture of menacing animals.

Surat municipal commissioner had sent a team from the market department of SMC to Jodhpur to observe the dog shed located there. SMC plans to build a dog shed of 500 dogs capacity after this visit.

A total of 4 teams of SMC will undertake the work of castration of 50 to 60 stray dogs every day. The castration of around 30 dogs is done daily at present by SMC. DeshGujarat
