A Conversational meet on Shivaji’s Hindvi Shasan
March 11, 2023
Karnavati: Bharatiya Vichar Manch, Karnavati Center organized a conversational talk on Hindvi Shasan aur Surajya: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Sankalpana on Thursday at Lions Hall, Karnavati by Dr. Ajit Apte. He has done a doctorate in management Style of Shivaji Maharaj. Dr. Apte is the only person in India and the world to have received a doctorate degree on Shivaji Maharaj and the entire audience experienced deep study and information during his speech.
Author of 2 important books on Shivaji Maharaj and one of the most brilliant thinkers of Maratha and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Dr. Ajit Apte is also a familiar face among Indian historians, according to him we do not know other aspects of Shivaji Maharaj. When Shivaji’s name is mentioned, we remember the words Swarajya maker, Hindu warrior but in the 35 years of Maharaj’s tenure, he devoted only seven and a half years to the war and its preparations, while the rest of the time he was busy in civil administrative arrangements. He
proved to be a skilled administrator, good businessman, skilled manager of finance, excellent human resource manager, merchant navy organizer, diplomat, and an excellent market researcher.
Another virtue of Shivaji Maharaj was that even after many wars he gave priority to human values and that is why the study of Shivaji Maharaj is very necessary for today’s era. Maharaj was a man of action in Hindu ideology and his main goal was public welfare, in which he constantly strived to establish a relationship of trust between the ruler and the people.
Dr. Apte did his Ph.D. on the subject of Shivaji. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was among those who inspired him to do so, she once said in a speech that we belittle Shivaji Maharaj by using words like Marathi and Hindu for him, he is a global leader and by using such words for him we make him a local leader.
Surat was raided and plundered by Shivaji in 1664 and 1670, for which there is a misconception that the plunder was the cause of the rift between the Gujaratis and the Marathas, but the truth is that it was revenge for Aurangzeb’s looting of Pune in 1660 and 1663. Aurangzeb was getting a lot of revenue from Surat, which at that time was in lakhs of
rupees. It is also important to know here that in this attack, special instructions were given by Shivaji not to harm children, women, old people, and religious sentiments.
When Shivaji had to deal in international trade, he left a deep impression as a skilled merchant by creating his own navy and that is why he is also known as the father of the Indian Navy. When the Portuguese, French, Dutch and English were dominant in international trade, he built his own ships up to Iraq in partnership with the Imam of Muscat with the policy of The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Three things are important in financial planning. First, wealth creation, second wealth appropriation, and third wealth distribution. Shivaji Maharaj proved adept at arranging these three things. After his death, the government treasury had 9 crores of political funds. While, clothes, gold and silver ornaments, pearls, and gems together were 25 thousand crore rupees. Apart from this, as far as weapons and equipment are concerned, there were about 1 lakh 80 thousand arrows. He allocated a budget of 7 lakh 50 thousand rupees annually for the ports, according to him it was not an expenditure but an investment, this alone is enough to prove Shivaji a visionary. According to him, after his death, Aurangzeb will invade Raigad and whether I stay or not, my kingdom should be safe and that’s why Maharaj built 360 forts and each fort was prepared to fight the enemy’s army for 1 year. As predicted by Shivaji, after one and a half years of his death, Aurangzeb invaded Raigad and fought for 27 years. Ruled Delhi for 50 years, but his position weakened due to war, which was a strategy of Shivaji Maharaj.
An English researcher Phillips Masers studied about 5 thousand kings of India with the aim of finding out the reason of British rule over India. Of which the greatest ruler was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. According to the researcher, good care of the army and nationalism, these two important things that make Shivaji stand out from others. And a lesser-known but explosive conclusion of his research is also worth knowing, according to him, if Shivaji Maharaj lived for 5 more years, the British would have failed to rule India, and the people of this country forgotten Shivaji Maharaj, thus they became slaves of the British.
At the end of the talk, Dr. Apte also said less likable things like nowadays, Hindus lack the sense of having their own Hindu ruler and even if the idea comes, it doesn’t last long. Later he added that the study of Shivaji by should be done from K.G. to P.G., i.e. the curriculum from Kindergarten to Post Graduation should include Shiva Charitra book based on the life of Shivaji. Further, the speaker said, He always leads by example. He was always ready to do the hardest work first and lay down his life for the nation, due to which the people were willing to do anything for the Maharaja.
