2.3 lakh houses under solar rooftop scheme in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government announced in the state assembly that within the last 2 years, 2.30 lakh houses in the state have registered for the solar rooftop scheme.

According to the energy minister Kanu Desai, a total of 2.30 lakh houses are covered under the ‘Surya Gujarat’ scheme with a total installed capacity of 922 megawatts as of December 31st, 2022. The scheme has been implemented in 27 out of 33 districts, with 34,794 houses in Ahmedabad, 33,918 houses in Vadodara, 30,918 houses in Surat, and 24,118 houses in Rajkot having solar plants installed.

The solar energy rooftop scheme was declared by the state government in August 2019. Customers receive a relaxation in their electricity bill due to the solar rooftop plants, and if they produce extra electricity, they can receive 2.25 rupees per unit in return. Additionally, the state government provides a subsidy of 40 percent for plants up to 3 kilowatts and 20 percent for plants between 3 and 10 kilowatts. DeshGujarat
