Gang of Dolphin poachers busted off Gujarat coast; bodies of 24 dolphins recovered

Porbandar: The forest department of Gujarat has busted a gang of Dolphin poachers off the Porbandar coast in the Saurashtra region. This is the first of its kind of operation.

In a joint operation with the Indian Coast guard, the forest department arrested 10 fishermen with 24 dead dolphins in a boat off Porbandar Coast. The boat’s name is Dayana’s – 2.

According to the preliminary investigation, the boat had left Kochi on 26 February. The forest department has reported that the ten individuals who were arrested hail from various states such as Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam, and Kerala.

The accused have been identified as Sansuman Basumatri (21) from Assam, Nihal Kunanchery (26) from Kerala, Giltus Muppakudi (62) from Kerala, Selvan Surlesh (46), Rajkumar Tanisharaj (52), Aarun Pillai (47), Anthony Barla (50), and Saujin Susayarul (36) from Tamil Nadu, Mayadhar Raut (37) from Odisha, and Ranjit Boro (28) from Assam.
